What Is a WordPress Page Builder?

A WordPress page builder is an editing layer that helps you compose page layouts and design elements beyond basic content entry. Modern WordPress also includes native block editing, so the key question is how much additional visual control and workflow structure you need.

What builders add

Builders typically add layout controls, reusable modules or blocks, responsive settings and richer styling interfaces.

Theme vs page builder

A theme establishes much of the site’s default presentation; a page builder controls page composition. Some ecosystems, including Divi, combine theme and builder capabilities.

Theme builders

Theme-building features extend visual editing to repeatable templates such as headers, footers, posts, archives and products.

Do you need one?

Use a dedicated builder when its workflow saves more time than it adds in dependency and maintenance. Native blocks may be enough for simpler sites.
